SEO versus SMO

Many webmasters and bloggers are doing everything to get their site popularized and to be included on the top ten in search rankings. There are two set of methods which are being practiced right now, or even making it a living on their own. The methods we are talking about are search engine optimization (SEO), and social media optimization (SMO). Both of these methods are somewhat similar, but still there is difference among them. What are their differences anyway? And how can you compare on who’s really better among SEO and SMO?

Let’s start things off with SEO based upon the previous introduction to SEO. Search engine optimization is one basic methods used to drive traffic to your site and to increase your search engine rankings manually. Search engine optimization is linked with a term called link building, which you promote your links manually through your own effort. Some examples are do-follow forum signatures, do-follow blog comments, social bookmarks, article and blog directories and many more. If you want your site to provide link juice to generate rankings and links to your website, you have to build your links to do-follow sites, however if you’re just relying on web traffic and unique visitors, you can build your links to no-follow sites as well. But do-follow links has the advantage over no-follow, because not only you get web traffic and backlinks, but also chances to improve your page rank and search engine rankings on Google, Yahoo and Bing. Search engine optimization was rarely used by many webmasters and bloggers right now, and its one way of marketing your own products, services and offers.

On the other hand, social media optimization or SMO is one basic method which focuses primarily on social media sites only. Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube are huge portals to market your website. Social media sites can be categorized either on social networking, photo sharing, file sharing, video sharing and music portals. However, these things are very unique rather than SEO because they can guarantee you rewarded quality inbound links, easy tagging and bookmarking, connection with communities and the ability to travel anywhere it wants to various internet sites. It is more beneficial than SEO, but only focused to social media. Social media optimization has a similarity to search engine marketing (SEM), which lets you market your website to various search engines, but SMO is more on page rank improving. SEO and SMO are different, but worth to try.

Both optimization techniques are very useful to drive traffic and build backlinks to your website which you will be a successful webmaster in no time. It’s worth to try and deserved to be the ultimate solution for success.
